DAN EUROPE
SUSTAINABLE TOUR

2021

Our planet, our motivation

ABOUT

Project overview

Jump onboard the first European sustainable tour run in the diving industry. Follow the adventures of our team of passionate scuba divers set to travel some 12.000 km across Europe on an electric vehicle.

The mission?

To promote a sustainable lifestyle and corporate responsibility, to keep our Oceans healthy, as our economies, health and human existence depend on it!

Join us along the way as we meet stakeholders (institutions, policy makers, like-minded corporations) and the whole diving community, addressing three major threats – increasing C02 levels, plastic and chemical pollution, biodiversity loss – to boost the change we all need.

DAN Europe Mission

DAN Europe exists to assist and protect all divers through the most extensive and reliable network of diving physicians worldwide.

  • DAN offers the community numerous pioneering services, including the first-ever insurance designed specifically for divers.
  • DAN conducts scientific research to better understand diving physiology and share that knowledge with the goal of making diving a safer, more accessible activity.
  • DAN also develops first aid educational programs to preserve life, in and out of the water.

“We recognize the unique beauty and fragility of our Blue Planet, and act as ambassadors for more sustainable practices within our community” – DAN Europe Foundation team

UN Ocean Decade

On 5 December 2017, the United Nations proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, to be held from 2021 to 2030. This Decade will provide a common framework to ensure that ocean science can fully support countries’ actions to sustainably manage the Oceans and more particularly to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Decade will provide a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to create a new foundation, across the science-policy interface, to strengthen the management of our oceans and coasts for the benefit of humanity

With the Sustainable Tour, we seek to support the United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development, collaborating with the achievement of the following SD-Goals:

PARTNERS

Whether in logistics or media companies, global corporations or neighborhood associations, we look for people who lead and advocate for a sustainable change in the world. Our Planet deserves your help. See here our changemakers.

When I am not wearing a hood, I have no problems e When I am not wearing a hood, I have no problems equalising my ears. On the other hand, when I wear it, I always have great difficulty. Why is there a difference? --- When we pressurise the middle ear space using the Valsalva manoeuvre or another equalisation technique, the tympanic membrane (ear drum) bulges outward slightly. If the ear canal is uncovered and can transmit that pressure, the water in the ear canal moves easily in response. A hood that fits snugly against the outer ear can greatly restrict the movement of this water, hampering the diver’s ability to equalise. An easy remedy to this is to insert a finger under the hood near the ear, which will allow the water to move more easily. Another solution some divers choose to implement is to cut a hole from the inside of the hood, near the ear canal, through the inner lining and the neoprene but leaving the outer fabric or covering intact. This hole allows the water to move with little restriction. --- 🩺Join DAN to get a number of benefits, including answers to all your diving-related medical questions: www.daneurope.org --- #medicalquestions #scubadiving #divingsafety #daneurope #diversalertnetwork

I am suffering from Meniere's disease and I would I am suffering from Meniere's disease and I would like to know if it is possible for me to start a diving course in spite of my condition. --- Meniere's disease is an absolute contraindication to diving. This recommendation, though, is only based on theory, and not on scientific evidence from affected divers who have personally experienced possible and multiple adverse events caused by diving with the above-mentioned clinical condition. If you wish, you could visit an ENT expert who specializes in ENT diseases within a diving context, to be absolutely certain, through direct clinical validation, of what is stated above. --- 🩺 Join DAN to get a number of benefits, including answers to all your diving-related medical questions: www.daneurope.org --- #medicalquestions #scubadiving #divingsafety #daneurope #diversalertnetwork

According to recent surveys, over 50% of all living sea turtles may have eaten plastic waste. - On #WorldOceanDay, let’s commit to reduce single-use plastic items, recycle, and raise our voice to get local and international institutions involved in Ocean #conservation and #protection. - 📸“Real” photo portraying a floating plastic bag in the sea shot by award-winning UW Photographer and environmentalist @marcello_di_francesco
What are the possible harm to the fetus and the mo What are the possible harm to the fetus and the mother if diving during pregnancy? --- There are few scientific data available regarding diving while pregnant: much of the available evidence is anecdotal. Nevertheless, researchers theorize that diving is in some ways similar to taking a drug: the pharmacological effects of nitrogen or other inert gases and high oxygen partial pressure on a developing fetus are not completely known. A retrospective observational survey conducted by the University Hospital on Switzerland, demonstrated an association between fetal malformations and scuba diving during early pregnancy. There is the possibility that diving may induce bubbles in the fetus. Also, fluid retention during pregnancy may cause nasopharyngeal swelling, which can lead to nose and ear stuffiness and the risk of ear or sinus squeezes. Pregnant women experiencing morning sickness, coupled with motion sickness, may have to deal with nausea and vomiting during a dive. This is at best an unpleasant experience, and it could lead to more serious problems if the diver panics. Due to the limited data available and the uncertainty of the effects of diving on a fetus,it is recommended that scuba diving should be postponed until after the pregnancy. --- 🩺Join DAN to get a number of benefits, including answers to all your diving-related medical questions: www.daneurope.org --- #medicalquestions #scubadiving #divingsafety #daneurope #diversalertnetwork

Can I dive with contact lenses and should I use ha Can I dive with contact lenses and should I use hard or soft ones? --- Diving with contact lenses is not a big problem. Both hard and soft lenses are used frequently by divers. The contact lens of choice for diving is the soft lens because it adheres better underwater than does the gas-permeable hard lens and it is somewhat larger, so the soft lenses are more less likely to be lost. If exposed to seawater during the dive the soft contact lenses swell and can float out of the eye. Also it has been observed that seawater can increase the adherence of soft contact lenses to become stuck to the cornea, causing mild ocular irritation and hazy vision during and shortly after ascent, though within the mask this should not cause a problem. So the main problem underwater is to loose your lenses. Especially when you are very poor sighted. If you are in a training position where you have to take off your mask or when your mask is flooded constantly the risk of loosing your lenses is real. For that reason a prescription mask may be a good alternative. --- 🩺 oin DAN to get a number of benefits, including answers to all your diving-related medical questions: www.daneurope.org --- #medicalquestions #scubadiving #divingsafety #daneurope #diversalertnetwork
